Advanced Labanotation Course
The Dance Notation Bureau’s Advanced Labanotation Course is a comprehensive program designed for individuals seeking to master the art of dance notation.
This course is ideal for notation practitioners who are eager to develop a deep, nuanced understanding of Labanotation. Students will gain expertise in accurately transcribing complex choreography, as well as applying advanced theoretical concepts to their notations.
Throughout the program, students will engage with a variety of advanced Labanotation techniques, including but not limited to:
- Four-body parts support
- Floor work and its notation challenges
- Design drawing and the representation of spatial relationships in dance
- Partnering work, including weight-bearing and lifting
- Pins usage and relationships
- Canon
- Acrobatic movements and their notation
- Systems of reference for clearer representation of movement
- And more
Taught by a distinguished team of certified notators from both the United States and Europe, students will benefit from personalized instruction, feedback, and guidance. The curriculum is designed to provide both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the Labanotation system and its practical applications.
The DNB periodically offers this three- to four-semester (during summer and winter) online Advanced Labanotation Course, though please note that the course is contingent upon sufficient enrollment. Tuition for the program ranges from $3,000 to $5,000, depending on the number of student enrollments. Flexible payment plans are available to accommodate all students.
