>OSU FINDING AID: NOTATED DANCES FROM BALLET RAMBERT

This is a finding aid of a collection of Labanotation scores donated by Meg Denton of works presented by Ballet Rambert and notated by Cecil Bates. The collection is housed in the DNB Collection at the Ohio State University, Lawrence and Lee Theatre Research Institute.

The collection of nine (9) scores was donated by Ms. Denton in January 2000. The scores are ballets, several of which Ballet Rambert premiered in Australia between 1937 to 1958. Many of the scores include original cast information and copies of the musical scores; Ray Cook has checked the notation scores with Ms. Denton. Mr. Bates himself choreographed and notated two of the works and he was a performer in the seven others. Death and the Maiden is the only score with a given date of notation (1947-52). Length of performance time and other information is given where it is known. The scores are listed in alphabetical order by title of piece.

The collection is open to the public but must be used in the OSU Lawrence and Lee Theatre Research Institute. Please note: Permission must be required from the DNB to view the scores.
