Weber, Executive Director - Certified Professional Notator and Teacher
of Labanotation; Certified Movement Analyst; B.F.A. in Dance, University
of Wisconsin, Milwaukee; notator of 15 works including Joffrey, Massine,
Posin, Wagoner, Sokolow, and full-evening length Sleeping Beauty.
Danced professionally with Milwaukee Ballet Company and other ballet,
modern, opera, and operetta companies. Taught Dance and Notation. Choreographed
for the Public Theater. Former Board of Directors: Congress on Research
in Dance (CORD) and American Dance Guild. Also has M.B.A. from the Wharton
School and M.S.E. in Computer Science at University of Pennsylvania. Managed
consulting projects at (now) KPMG and was a Vice President at Goldman

Alice Helpern,
Director of Programs - Ms. Helpern has worked at the Merce Cunningham
Studio since 1987: as administrator, studio director, and more recently
as International Program Coordinator. She taught dance technique at the
Cunningham Studio, the Martha Graham School, Hunter College High School,
Vassar College, and a number of summer dance programs. She first studied
Labanotation informally at the Connecticut College Summer School of Dance
with Helen Priest Rogers, but later returned to earn the Elementary Certificate
at Ohio State University (Summer 1974) under Alan Miles, and the Intermediate
Certificate at Mills College (Summer 1975) under K. Wright Dunkley.
A graduate of Wellesley College (A.B.) and New York University (M.A. and
Ph.D.) She completed her dissertation on The Evolution of Martha
Graham's Dance Technique. At the encouragement of Selma Jeanne Cohen,
this was revised and published as The Technique of Martha Graham in 1991
and 1994, with a number of archival photographs by Barbara Morgan and
Martha Swope. She continues to write about dance and has published several
articles and reviews in Ballet Review, and edited the edition of Choreography

William Kiley,
Director of Finance and Administration - Mr. Kiley joined the DNB
in October 2006. He has been a supporter of the DNB for many years and
has also served as a volunteer, assisting with financial and technology
issues. He spent 20 years as a programmer and project manager in the information
technology departments of several investment and commercial banks where
he directed the budgeting, design and development of fixed-income transaction
processing applications. Mr. Kiley earned an M.A. in Philosophy from Rutgers

Oona
Haaranen, Director of Education - Choreographer, Educator, and Writer
- has a BFA from Juilliard, an MA from City College of New York. She has
taught at many institutions, including New York City College, St. Josephs
College in Brooklyn, New York University, Language of Dance Center USA,
Arts Gate Center in New York, and Dance Institute of Helsinki. Ms. Haaranen
has performed, directed, and choreographed in many venues both in the
US and in Finland. She founded her own dance school and company and has
been the Education Director for Brooklyn Ballet since 2002. She is currently
pursuing her PhD in dance. Ms. Haaranen has been writing our semiannual
DNBulletin and she joined the staff of the DNB in September 2008. oonahaaranen@dancenotation.org
Sandra Aberkalns,
Notator - Certified Professional Labanotator, Stager, and Teacher
of Labanotation. Sandra was resident notator for the Paul Taylor Dance
Company 1987-1993. As a DNB staff notator she has not only notated additional
Taylor pieces but also works by William Forsythe, Robert Battle, Mark
Morris, Martha Graham, and Jerome Robbins, among others. As well, Sandra
has staged works around the world including the Paris Opera, La Scala
in Milan, White Oak Dance Project, and Eglevsky Ballet. She is one of
the few notators who holds, in addition to her Labanotation qualifications,
advanced notation and teaching certificates from the Benesh Institute
in London. She has published articles in Dance Magazine, Dance Teacher,
and the 1998 CORD Conference Proceedings. Sandra is also a Flash Reviewer
on the Dance Insider when she can squeeze it in. Ms. Aberkalns joined

Mei-Chen
Lu, Director of Library Services and Webmistress - Reconstructor and
Certified Teacher of Labanotation; M.F.A. in Dance Performance and Labanotation,
The Ohio State University; B.A., Hunter College, CUNY; A.A., Tainan Woman's
College of Arts and Technology, Taiwan. Ms. Lu studied Labanotation and
received Elementary Labanotation Teacher Certification at the Ohio State
University in 2002. While she was at OSU, she also worked as student supervisor
in the Music and Dance Library. She has been the writer for the Library
News. Ms. Lu joined the Dance Notation Bureau in 2002. library@dancenotation.org
Mira Kim, Notation Associate - Reconstructor and Certified Teacher
of Elementary and Intermediate Labanotation; M.A., The Ohio State University;
B.A., Ewha Womans University. In 2001, Ms. Kim joined the DNB, responsible
for transcribing scores into Labanwriter. In addition, in 2006, Ms. Kim
had completed notator-training, and is currently aiming to complete her
certifying score for Peter Quanz's Kaleidoscope sometime in 2010. mirakim@dancenotation.org
Doris Caravaglia, Office Manager - Doris Caravaglia was formerly the
Membership Coordinator and Office Manager with Circum-Arts Foundation,
Inc., a non-profit organization for the arts. Prior to that she worked
in the corporate world, Wall Street etc. She has always been a devotee
and supporter to the arts, particularly dance and music. Mrs. Caravaglia

Charlotte Wile, Theory Bulletin Board Moderator (Volunteer) - Certified
Professional Notator, Reconstructor, and Teacher of Labanotation; Certified
Movement Analyst; M.S. in Music Education, City College; B.S. in Dance,
Juilliard School. Ms. Wile performed on- and off-Broadway and notated
works by McKayle, Arpino, and Jooss. She has taught at many institutions,
including Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies, Brooklyn College,
Barnard College, University of Detroit at Marygrove, Performing Arts High
School, Ruben Academy in Israel, New York City public schools, and her
own studio. She now is writing a book on Motif Writing. Ms. Wile began
the Theory Bulletin Board in 1999, and it now has over 100 postings from

Jill Cirasella, Theory Bulletin Board Curator (Volunteer) - Ms.
Cirasella was DNB Librarian in 2000-2001 and is now Computational Sciences
Specialist at the Brooklyn College Library. Her education includes a B.A.
in computer science from Amherst College, an M.S. in library and information
science from Simmons College, an M.Sc. in logic from the Universiteit
